go to this site. If all of the ports come up stealthed than you are most likely running some sort of firewall.

https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

Go to the bottom and click on probe ports........... ;)

Try the Symantec Security Check located at:
http://www.symantec.com/securitycheck/

A very intensive scan of your firewall.....much more than the one at Steve Gibson's site :D

:) Should you decide to go to the Symantic site and use their scan you should be aware the site is set around a sales pitch.
1. The scan will not recognise ANY other Antivirus program.
2. It will not recognise ANY other firewall program.
3. It will not recognise ANY other AV definitions.
4, It WILL suggest you do not have protection from a virus unless you have Norton Security Products.
5.
You will be required to download a "small" 1.??meg program to carry out the scan.
If you can see through the site's attempt to get you to download a trial of this, a 30 day test of that, there is probably some worth to the scan but only for virus control.
You can get better from some of the FREE and independent scanning sites that will actually put your firewall under pressure. You should remember that when you go to your log for the firewall and see all those hits from one place that YOU arranged the "Attack" yourself. It is apparently common for users to have a scan, forget about it and freak out when the log was opened. Ther next thing that happens is an email is fired off to some unsuspecting scan website's abuse@ for the wrong reason.
Please don't think I just don't like Norton. It's just not true. There are other lighter weight AV programs out there that are just as effective.

Well Croc, I have to tell ya that I only used that part of Symantec's Security Check pertaining to testing of one's firewall. I was prompted to download a file, but declined. The result of which my firewall was subjected to three separate batteries of tests that scanned known trojan ports, typical network ports, and a variety of temporary range ports. This barage lasted some 15-20 minutes and the results were given immediately thereafter. So whatever marketing ploy you were subjected to, I can attest that I never experienced it and would never have allowed it. I guess some of us no how to overcome such obstacles :D

well. no firewall is secure. from my old hacker experience ive broken many firewalls. but there are not as many people as l33t as me. But the easiest way to test the stability of the firewall is make

1. Portscan ur ip.
2. Make sure when u a good subnet set for

ur internal network.
if you have like 10 computers set ur subnet to 255.255.255.240 that will save ur ass some. also disallow 127.0.0.1 from accessing the firewall. alot of my teckniques were based on ip spoofing and firewall piercing. well thats basically all you can do. also if u want security. dont bother running leenucks. if you do your a prime target for hax0ring.
