Zone Alarm is free and is a very good firewall. You can get it from www.zonelabs.com (http://www.zonelabs.com)

and where can i get a port scaner to check from 1 of my computer's to the other to check if the fire wall is doing it's job?

https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 At this site you can test the security of the firewall that you are using. You do it from the computer that you want to test.

Hope this info helps ;)

Tiny Personal Firewall Is the best if you are an intermediate. http://www.tinysoftware.com it is the best and it has md5 Signature checking so if a trojan calls itself Explorer.exe Tiny wont let it Access the net.

If it said your ports are stealthed, then for all intense purposes, your computer doesn't exist! Bear in mind that you have 65535 ports that can be scanned, so by all means, find yourself a personal firewall and use it. Most security port scans, out on the web, only check common ports, as doing a full scan would take a real long time! It's just not feasible to do full scans unless your really after some info on someones computer or are a hacker. :)

You may also want to run a check on this site http://www.sdesign.com/securitytest/index.html

Choose the full scan and have the results emailed to you. You will have to leave your computer on for the whole test which can take anywhere from 1hr to 2hrs and then the results are emailed.
Are you running Windows 98se? If so, you may need to get the Shutdown Supplement so the computer will knock off the restarting. I have to remind mine every now and then. I'll find you the link and post it as an edit to this message. Give me a couple minutes! :p

If your running the Linksys router, that is probably whats doing it. If the report is showing the same, then you should be O.K.
You might want to get a firewall as a second line of defense. You also may want to check and get Ken's opinion. For the most part though, it would be tough for someone to just get in to your system as it is! :D
