I've been using this site for years, I hope I'm able to get help this time around too.

I got a new netbook and new connection on the same day. I was seeing 1300kbps while on the wireless connection, and when I severed the wireless connection and put the ethernet cable in I got a momentary boost to 2600 kbps, then down to 1200kbps in the same speed test?

I have Verizon DSL, 3MBps connection on a windows vista netbook.

The IP address looks bad, I'm connected to my old router that still has the same settings and my IP should be something like 192.168.2.

I think my problem has something to do with my router settings mixed with Vista trying to manage my connection itself. I used to get 2900kbps with verizon at this SAME house. maybe interference from random auto updates as well?

WOW. disregard my post, i found the cause of my fluctuating internet speed.

hotfix-kb5504305

a generic bot running as rundll59.exe (number of rundll is random). i thought it was part of the constant updating i was doing through windows update. i saw it around since the day took the netbook out of the box even though my internet connection didnt activate until around 9pm that night... though i don't want to jump to conclusions.

thanks anyways, maybe my post can help future searches. the netbook i bought was an acer aspire one.
