Blocking isp dns redirection......

I just discovered how to use dnsmasq. I am using it to block dns redirection from my isp. Now. Is this even technically possible? I have noticed much more speedier internet and pages are not timing out any more. I would even got as far to say it is a pretty drastic improvement. But, like I said. Is it even technically possible or me just wanting to believe?
