Is cable any more or less secure than DSL. I know cable is shared among the people in your area, and DSL is your own line, but is sharing the calbe connection with other people, is that less secure. Please let me know.

cable, DSL or dial up, it doesn't matter. Everyone that is online needs a firewall. If you don't have one, don't be surprised when the unexplained starts happening...

Heh, I remember in the early days of home broadband, a buddy of mine was able to get on the early list of home testers for his area. He had a LAN setup in his place so he could share his connection with his roommate using WinGate (this is pre-ICS). No problem, except that one day, some brainac at Rogers decided to bind IPX/SPX to the main server for the area. He went into his network neighbourhood and saw hundreds of computers! =) And since he was on Win95, there is little or no security.

I don't need to tell you what kind of problems resulted from THAT little error. Needless to say, this was changed VERY quickly.

So, security is really whatever you want it to be. Set your system up right and run a firewall, and no one is getting in. Run a dozen different servers, and set your system up wrong, and everyone and their uncle will be able to waltz through your system.
