I have a Netgear RT314 router and I was wondering how I can disable the firewall that comes with it. If you have ne info reply to this or email me at hhhy2j@mediaone.net

What do you mean by "disable the firewall that comes with it"?

Are you talking about shutting off all of the filters and not using NAT, so you can use just the DHCP capabilities of the unit?

More info is needed to - why would you want to do what you are asking?

I play games on the internet. And I can host them very well with my cable. And with the firewall on no one can join in my games. I want to turn the firewall off so they can join in my games. How would i do this?

That will be flirting with disaster my friend. You need a firewall with DMZ...

Don't disable the firewall, just forward specific port addresses to your server. Only forward the ports needed by the game you play and only forward them to the server.

Not to be an ass - but did you read the instructions that came with it?

You can access the port forwording from either the management interface via the web or through telnet.

The management interface can usually be reached at "http://192.168.0.1"
or telnet 192.168.0.1
the you need to provide logon and pass to access the system.

If you have lost the instructions - you can download that from netgears site

I don't know the specific procedure you need, but in one of the telnet-accessible menus, you will find a list of Ports (listed as "0" because they are unassigned) and a list of lan IP addresses. Turn off DHCP and assign permanent IP addresses to all your computers within the lan. Then in the above menu, list port 2346 in the port listing and list 192.168.0.102 or whatever IP address you've assigned to your server in the IP address column. Save the changes to the CMOS and if your system is set up correctly, you're in business.

I don't know about access through the web interface, but Telnet should work. I have a Zyxel P314 which is the brother of your router and that's how it works for me. I can't change port forwarding in the web-accessible menus. Maybe you can.

Also, when you have any ports open, it is a good idea to turn off all file sharing or at least have any shared areas password protected.
