Does running a firewall slow down your connection???? If the connection is going very slow, peak hours or something like that, would I notice a difference between having the firewall on and off???

What firewall are you using? It really shouldn't slow you down. Zone Alarm uses about 5-6% resources. You probably have some other proggies slowing you down or too many proggies loading on start up...
If you are using McAfee or Norton's, you may see a slow down as their proggies have all sorts of BS in them...

Does driving your car with a windshield give you worse gas mileage? Operating a computer with a cable or dsl connection is just as stupid. If you use zone alarm, I would suggestion turning off that feature that takes down the IP's of the preditors. I find that it's a big system slow down. Go a step further too and disable it from your startup menu. Think about it. If you're attacked sometimes over ten times a minute. Every time it happens, notepad opens up and it's added. Yucky!!
Lose the Norton/Symantec and download 'InnoculateIT' at www.antivirus.cai.com (http://www.antivirus.cai.com) [freeware & free updates].
Download ZA from www.zonealarm.com (http://www.zonealarm.com) & disable the log.
Run 'AdAware' [freeware] and 'Anti-Trojan 5.0 [5 free uses].
These will give you the Efficient basics.
Good luck getting Norton off your system, you'll need it.

Hey Matt,
How about a few more details?
You are using the free version correct?
Did you change any of the settings?
Did you reboot after you installed it?
Are you sure that you uninstalled Norton's from Control Panel, then did a search and removed all references to Norton's? Norton's has a lot of crap in it.
After you uninstalled it, did you reboot before installing ZA?
Have you ran an updated virus scan? If you need an excellent one for free, go HERE and DL Inoculate IT (http://antivirus.cai.com/)reboot and then go back and update it, then run a thorough scan. I don't recommend running 2 antiviruus proggies at one time....
Maybe a trojan scan as well, Anti-Trojan is here (http://www.anti-trojan.net/home.asp?l=en)and is free for 5 trial uses.
and some aureate programs can screw up IE, so go HERE and DL AdAware (http://www.lavasoft.de/aaw/index.html) and let it run a scan, but don't let it delete anything until you post what it found here. Some programs must be uninstalled before you can let AdAware clean up the details.
Let me know if these ideas don't help, give some more details and we will look deeper...

Yes, I am using the free version. I didn't change many major settings. I did reboot after instalation, and no norton is not completely off of my system. I still use norton anti-virus. I do update my virus scanner very often, and I have already run anti-Trojan. I have also run adaware programs and I just recently posted the results from that in another post I had. I just run that again today and here are the results.

Oh by the way, how do I get rid of the white around the image???
Should I remove any of these.
I did remove a couple of things that it had found, and that people here at speedguide told me to get rid a week or two ago. This info did help. Now that I got rid of Norton, Zone Alarm seems to be working. It now seems to be allowing me to do things it previously was not allowing me to do. At the time it was not working I still had norton on my system. Is this the reason it was not working?????

Yes the spy ware posted there after scanned . Should be deleted. Answer to second question. That was probably the problem.
