Hey JANDOENT how come ad aware doesn't catch it?

It is a lot easier to write a spy proggie than to catch one. I was pleased that adaware just issued an updated version, however, it still can not find everything. OptOut by Gibson is another proggy that needs an update as it only looks for a few files. Education is still the best defense. READ those agreements before you install any proggie! DL Accel. tells you in plain English that they will collect and use your info for ad purposes, etc. Given what they tell you they will do, just think about what they don't tell you! http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/rolleyes.gif

I personally like reget. they used to charge $20 for it, but now it's free. It's a little more complicated to use, but I liked it's features. Good luck.

Any way to neutralize the spyware part of the apps to make it work without it?

Hey denolth, In reality, reverse engineering is illegal, even on spy proggies. So on behalf of SG, I must say, NO, offically there is no way. http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/tongue.gif

There are other programs tho besides DA that do virtually the exact same thing. Flashget, Go!Zilla, and others.
I confused. I just ran adaware and it found nothing but a doubleclick cookie. No reference to download acc plus?

Auto, AdAware cannot find all spyware, only the ones that it knows to look for. There is a lot of other spyware proggies that it doesn't know about as well. AdAware is a great proggie. It removes bad cookies with ease, but you have to be careful using it for other types of spyware as different spyware require diff. means of removal.
Please read some of the other threads here to get a better understanding. It will not be a waste of your time if you are concerned about spyware....

Its the best f_ucking program on the f_ucking planet. You have to f_ucking download it and install it. Otherwise your making a big f_ucking mistake http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

Ok. If reverse engineering an app is illegal, then how would you use an app like DA, and if you wanted to remove it and all the spyware, if you're not sure what it installed onto your hard drive? I suppose after uninstalling it, going through the registry is one way, but if you don't know what the spyware is, how would you detect that? A complete reformat seems somewhat excessive....and shouldn't the app allow you to remove "everything" ??? Isn't leaving spyware on your hard drive after uninstalling an app also an illegal procedure on the marketer's part? Or do they have a loophole there?
Hi denolth2
You make a good point, however, with the new Spyware, you don't know...please refer to my post on SPYWARE:IS It a Secret?.....what they are going to do seems scary. I would ask you to read the article and see for yourself.

Hey every one,
Denolth, any time that you install then uninstall a proggie, a lot of things are left on your 'puter. This is with all proggies. Last night, I spent time removing files, logs, drivers, etc. from good proggies that I had installed and uninstalled earlier. You really would be surprised at what you can find still in your registry, windows, program files, etc. long after an uninstall.
It is very important to read the acceptance page thoroughly before you agree to install any proggie. I posted on this thread the acceptance page for DA, and it blatanly tells you it will track and use your info. The problem is that most people only click OK or Accept and never read what they accept.
That same page tells you that it is illegal to reverse eng., modify, change, etc. any part of the proggie.
What can be allowed in proggies is an on going deal that our lawmakers are working on now, in theory! So it is questionable wheen it comes down to what they have to tell you. But when it is written prohibiting changes as mentioned above, it is definately illegal and prosecutable. How can they know if you have changed something? We still don't know everything that these spy proggies do, and they are changing everyday, becoming more advanced, "smarter", harder to detect.....

I guess the point I want to make is what is considered reverse engineering or "tweaking" with a product? Let's say you uninstall a product, and it leaves a bunch of spyware garbage behind that you don't want? Is it considered tweaking or altering their product if you uninstall and remove every trace of their spyware you happened to find from your machine? Lots of implication in the acceptance page, but nothing really clear or set in stone, and sometimes it can be misinterpreted, and with all the sue-happy folks we have in our great nation.... http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/frown.gif
I realize this is on the extreme side, but it was Microsoft that came up with the concept that you don't own your software you purchase....only the licensing of it...

You have the right idea on owning a licence and not the product! You have every right to remove any program put in your machine. Rev. eng., altering, etc., is refering to the proggie and the way it works. Uninstalling has nothing to do with that.
A few posts up you had asked about removing the spy parts of the proggie and still using the proggie. That is altering the proggie. Reverse engineering is basically "cracking" the proggie! hehheeheeh And you know that no one around here cracks proggies!! http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/rolleyes.gif http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/tongue.gif http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/wink.gif

It's only illegal if you re-distribute the altered proggie. You can alter, reverse engineer, crack, or whatever you want to call it, any program on your system you want. You can make Photoshop Pro play mp3's and auto-download porn sites if you want. Just don't re-distribute it, or any part thereof.
