zonealarm alert pop-ups

while browsing, the alert boxes from zonealarm pop up alot saying zonealarm has blocked access.....etc. does this mean someone was trying to access my computer? i have alot of those pop-ups

some may be attempts. some may be servers that still think you are connected to them or something of that nature. it may be your ISP running network tests/checks. can also be an app trying to access the internet (but it would tell you so).

i used zonealarm for awhile, and ended up disabling the pop-up window and enabling the log. that way you dont get interrupted every 2 minues with another arbitrary "alert".

if you run certain online connection and secutiy tests (or if a person does a full port scan on you) you will generally get an alert for every port that is hit (there being ~65500 ports, i believe) of alerts pointing to the different ports that are being scanned. usually from the same origin as well.

in many instances its just some server you have visited in the past or some kind of webcrawler server doing logging whatever info it is supposed to. sometimes (but not always) attacks look a little more obvious.

I would strongly suggest turning off the zone alarm log. It not only is annoying, but it is a HUGE system hog. Think about it. I have a cable modem and sometimes I'd get hit three times a second! Every one of those hits is recorded. I have a 500mhz computer and if i'm running six or seven programs, that could push me over the edge and bs on me. Good luck. I love zonealarm myself, but my friend swears on nortons.

i use ZA...i don't get to many popup alerts from it...have the odd time when i get loads of echo ping requests...or NetBIOS....

Last night, while downloading MP3s off of Napster, I got pinged by other users constantly (everytime someone searched for an MP3 that I shared), it was extremely annoying. I eventually ended up checking the 'Don't alert me...' checkbox http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif Problem solved.
