I read this article here http://www.winmag.com/columns/explorer/2000/25.htm

It explains that AOL screws with your security on an adapter or something (I'm not too good with the computer networking and security lingo or whatnot). The thing is, the author says that he fixed the problems, but doesn't say how. Soooo, I was wondering if someone could tell me how to go about doing what he did..

Hey velvta, Uninstall AOL thru conrol panel and then re boot. Then go back to control panel and double click on the "Network" icon. Look on the "Configuration" tab and if you see anything with AOL in the window, remove it. While you are there you can make sure that all of your bindings are correct by going here and printing this step by step detailed instructions. http://grc.com/su-rebinding9x.htm
Let me know if you have any problems.

You can still go to that link. Read it carefully to get an idea of the concept. Basically bind Client for MS Networks, File Sharing and MS Family log on to NetBEUI, Bind the adapters that you use to connect to the internet to TCP/IP. I deviate from his diagrams somewhat as I don't bind netBEUI to anything that connects to the net. This way no chance of file sharing to connect to net and I don't have to log on as I am the only user. If you study the link carefully you will understand the principle and you can substitute or customize it to fit your needs.

Hey velvta, AOL does have a lot of controversy around it, lawsuits, spy proggie questions, and it uses a lot of resources. There is other options available, let us know if you have a particular reason that you need AOL or if you would like to hear some other options...

I suggested the format because it is exactly what I would (and have done) do to get rid of a problem that probably can`t be corrected by other ways. The best way to fix the AOL and other problems that may have corrupted the registery beyoond repair is to start from scratch.
