View Full Version : ADSL and FIREWALL
Hi, i have problem with ADSL.. If i try example start my own FTP server, anyone who try connect there, fails. And same problem is with Half-Life countersrike -mod, i made CS server, and anyone can't connect it.
And that happens EVERY progran, which uses TCP/IP or IPX connection, i can join others server, but anyone cannot join my server...
So what's the problem? Firewall or what?
I have ADSL 128k Internet connection.
Please help!
Local phone company is my "ISP".
and.. i have called them but they know nothing about it. Sucks.

Hey haukka, You need to find out what incoming port connects to your server and open them in your firewall. This will cause a security hole so you may want to get a hardware firewall with DMZ. They are expensive. I just paid over $1200 for mine, but it is top of the line. Let me know if you are interested and I will give you some links to learn about it and some comparison charts.

What is your providor?
A firewall could be the problem, your ISP has a desire to block you from running any type of server so they just filter the ports of the most common ones.
You could always call and ask, asking usually saves a lot of time, energy and frustration.

Hi Jandoent
If I may respectfully ask...which hardware firewall did you get?
Your decision does carry weight and influence in here.
Thanks

Hey fredra, how are you? I didn't forget about you http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/wink.gif I ordered it Mon. night, I believe. The 3com office connect with DMZ. You can see it here; http://www.3com.com/products/dsheets/400526_01.html#2
It uses the same type method as sonicwall and Webramp. It is a true firewall and the info that I came up with on it impressed me.
