Tiny software's personal firewall (build 6), came out and I am tryingit out now. It seems pretty great, passed the grc.com test perfectly. But still have to try it out on some other sites too.
And unlike zonealarm, it works with my NAT. Ayone care to comment? I don't see a lot of people talk about this firewall, so I am just wondering why?...doesn't seem that bad.
Hi Bluthing
There is an exhausted thread on TINY FIREWALL further back.....try expanding to 30 days, it is on page 3.
If you can't find it let me know.
Thanks Janodent
Just cruisin through....lol
Hi Flats...welcome to speedguide.
Yes I use Tiny and they have re-written it effective December 13...check their web page at www.winroute.com. (http://www.winroute.com.)
It is really not as basic as you imagine, however, it assumes you have knowledge of Ports, TCP, UDP and ICMP. It is NOT install it and forget it software, you HAVE to create rulesets, for example you have to create a ruleset under ICMP Echo to stop or deny incoming pings. It also does not inform you of the specific application that is outbound (like ZAP)...it gives you the name of IEXPLORER.EXE which can be confusing, and you will permit it to go through, in fact it maybe a Trojan or an add from a recently visited web page.
If you are comfortable with the above it becomes a very powerful firewall.....
Pros
It has a small footprint
It uses a CPU slices effectively (it doesn't bog your PC down)
It shows up in the taskbar (unlike Sygate)
It is non-intrusive
It hides ALL your ports (like ZAP)..unlike Sygate.
It has passed all the tests I have thrown at it (as far as being behind a software firewall)
You can download the manual.
You have control of your log file...you can log everything...or log only the important ones.
Cons
You have to have knowledge of TCP..UDP..ICMP and port mapping (all 65, 000)
It can mislead you when informing you of the application going out.
I hope that helps.
Good Luck
PS... I agree with Janodent...do not use two software firewalls at the same time....you may get conflicts...and if you don't it will slow down your PC to pre-historic crawl (386 speed)...they are using CPU slices to check the same ports or applications.
THE ABOVE WAS TAKEN FROM THE PREVIOUS THREAD
