I have a question. First let me say that I am a novice and if any answers are given they need to be as simple as possible.

I have a Dell 450 xsp. I was wondering how I can make it as secure as possible. I would like to send the least amount of information as possible and still be able to function on the net. I would like to keep my IP hidden if possible as well.

I currently have ZA, surfinguard,IDcide, Norton, and a program that checks for any trojans. Is this enough or is there something else that should be done? Thanks for any information.

Well, keeping your IP hidden is a tricky thing. You can try something like proxy software, but they can be a little complicated. To be honest, if you aren't doing anything illegal, hiding you IP isn't that big of a deal.
Now, as for hiding personal information, go here https://onlinescanner.iss.net/download.html and run the scan. After that, follow the directions to help setup things to be more obsecure. Another thing to try is Web Washer, which is free. You can get it from www.webwasher.com. (http://www.webwasher.com.) This nice little program filters websites for you , manages cookies, and helps with privacy. You can also try Norton Personal Firewall, however it's not free.

Just some suggestions. I've tried them all and I like what they do for me.

Hope this helped!!! http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif</font>

Thanks for the info Bamafan73. About the IP addy. No nothing illegal. I just thought that this was something that should be somehow blocked for security, but if it does not matter then it is alright.

I tried the online scanner you suggested and it would not load. Something come up and said it was not a safe active-X so it was not permitted to load. I will check into the other addy you gave also. Thanks.

saved; You prob have your security setting set to disallow 'Unsafe ActiveX Controls' is a good thing.

Be careful not to run more than one Anti-Virus prog and, you should only need one firewall.

Would recommend 'AdAware 5.0' from www.lavasoft.de (http://www.lavasoft.de) [freeware] it will clean all the Spyware & Adware off your puter. Also, 'Anti-Trojan 5.5' from www.jv16.org/ (http://www.jv16.org/) [5 free uses] is very effective.

Recheck your ZoneAlarm settings under Configure to be sure they are set at what you want/need.

Keep your AV prog updated. Run Adaware 2 or 3 times a week.

Never download 'Freeware' unless you know it is safe.

If you Really want 'Secure as Possible', you will need a 'Hardware Firewall' [over $200].

That about covers the basics.

Anything else you may want is noted somewhere in these postings.

Hello Saved, Welcome to Speed Guide.
Across the top of your screen when you are using IE. (You can do this now) Click on "Tools", then go down to the last line "Internet Options" and click on it. A new screen will pop up. Click on the last tab on right "Advanced". You can control some security options from there. If you aren't sure what a line item means, Right click on it (The right side button on your mouse, and a small tab will appear and say "What's This", you can then do a click (left side of mouse), and it will explain it to you. If any confuse you, just let us know and we will explain it and give you our opinion... http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif
