View Full Version : FTP/Zone Alarm Question
When i connect to other ftp(using cute3.5) sites under win2k, i connect ok but i'm not able to "open data connection for directory list". i've deactivated my zone alarm pro but still no help. i dual boot win2k and win98 and i can make the data connection ok under win98 if i deactivate za. could someone tell me what i'm doing wrong under win2k? thanks, rookie

well....i moved security level from high to medium and all seems to work ok so far.
thanks bamafan & jandoent...i found a setting under the firewall tab in cute called "PASV", activated it and reset my za settings back to high and all works just fine. thanks for the help plus the advice on security setting.

Under the proxy settings for Cute, there should be a setting for "passive" mode. I don't know what it's called, but it should be something like that. That needs to be selected for you to use ZA with High security setting. Never compromise your security just to get something to work, just about everything out there will work on High setting, if set up properly.
BTW, you may want to lose the Cute, it's spyware. Try something like FlashFXP or Leech. Both work really well and aren't spyware. Just some friendly advice.
Have fun!!!

hey Bamafan, I believe he is using an older, prespyware version of Cute. I don't think they started putting it in until maybe 4.2 or something like that. You are correct about the passive settings.

You might be right and probably are. I don't follow the Cute thing, can't stand it.
Thanks for letting me know that I'm right about the passive setting. Now, I know what I'm telling people is right. http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif
