What is the best free virus checking/removing s/w ? When I was in school it was F-PROT. Is this still the case ?

Here is the best recognized antivirus comparisons. As you will see, the best program is always changing and sometimes depends on which OS is used. The main things is to get one of the consistant ones. From these sites you will learn that most of the virus info is shared anyway.

BE AWARE that Anti-Virus programs are all 'After-the-fact' programs. They can't protect you from a NEW virus. I just lost a PC from a still unknown boot virus. MS engineers told me I had to replace hard drive after spending 5 hours with me.
There are some smart & 'SICK' people out there.

"Smart & Sick"...that is mild.
The ingenuity of these smart/sick puppies never fails to amaze me.
Just imagine if they put their brains to work on more substantive things, we might have peace in the world or stop the hunger on our planet.
But that is utopian thinking, and far above their level of intelligence.
