WinME
I am using Zone Alarm and have granted Download Accelerator Plus permission to access the internet. Zone Alarm blocks FTP downloads but not http downloads. I have both security Zones set to high. On my other computer I never had this problem. I just can't figure out why ZA is blocking my FTP downloads. I have to completely shut down ZA just to download FTP (Using Download Accelerator Plus). Any ideas?

Hey mikemean406, Download Accelerator is spyware. I would get rid of it first, then reasess the situation.

Download accelerator is not spyware. I have used GRC's OPT Out to scan for spyware and none is detected. Http://www.grc.com

I beg to differ with you my friend. Go here and get AdAware. It is much more thorough than OptOut. But if you still don't believe me, let me know and I will post 10 different links that will tell you all about it. Or you can read some of my previous posts. Let me know if I can help you out.

I downloaded that program and I do like it better than Opt Out, BUT, as I said before, Download Accelerator is not spyware. I ran the scan 2 times and the only files it found were cookies, it did not say anything about Download Accelerator. Thank you though! Back to my ORIGINAL post about FTP downloads being blocked by ZoneAlarm please.

Hey mikemean, maybe you didn't read your agreement with them. Here it is for your convenience

What browser are you using?
Hi ken,
I'm sure your right, but, if you use adaware it gets rid of the spyware files and you can still use Download accelerator. When I first used adaware,it got rid of the nasty files!!

Hey mojac,
Did you read the link a couple of posts up on this thread that has the agreement for installing Download Accelerator? It tells you what it does. AdAware is a great tool, but it doesn't know all of the spywares. Also, it is known that even uninstalling a spyware program doesn't always get rid of the spybug. DA puts an attachment on your browser. Read the agreement closely. I am not neccessarily blaming it for all of the problems, but I certainly can't rule it out either. Remember, spyware is spyware, they don't play by the rules. It is very easy for them to upgrade the spybug once you have a basis for them to start with. Also, keep in mind it is easier to write a spy proggie than to find one. I like AdAware a lot, but don't let it give you a false sense of security. It is a great tool ,BUT, it is not a cure all. http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/wink.gif Hope this helps you out bro. Take care. I will be talking with you again soon. Ken

Hey mike, did Download Accelerator speed your downloads up a lot? http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/confused.gif I had it a long time ago when some of my files was overwritten by spyware. But I don't recall it making that much difference on my 'puter. I let IE take care of my downloads. If you want, let me know and I will look into some download assistants, but give IE a chance for a while.
DAP does work, but again, it is spyware. The way DAP works, is that it connects to the file that you're downloading multiple times (8 or less times, depending on how many simultaneous connections the server allows that you're downloading from), and downloads parts of the file from different connections. If you really enjoy downloading a little faster, and don't mind it being spyware, use it!
The only reason that I would ever use DAP, Gozilla!, GetRight, or any other download managers, is to do exactly that, manage my downloads. Not to increase my downloading speed, considering the fact that I already get good speeds (I have cable). But if I forget which files I was downloading, I'd rather open Notepad, and copy/paste the URLs in there, and save the text file, instead of having spyware installed on my computer http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif
That's just my opinion...
