I recently updated to 2.1.44 from the prev. version. all was well until i did that. Now when i try go online my I.E 5.5 comes up web page not found. If i start the dsl (mindspring) connection first then ZA i have a 50% chance of it working. these are the current setting med.-local, high-internet. also added subnet adapters. Any clues? I wish i had the old version laying around. thx
Under the programs list in ZA ,locate IE and then right click it. In the context menu that apears goto the bottom and select Remove. Now open IE and it will prompt you to alow it or now ,simply alow it access then go on with your browsing http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif

My gess is when Zone Alarm prompts you to alow it access to the internet one of 2 things is happening.
1.you are not alowing it access
2.a program or feature is not enabled to alow the prompt to display thus supressing it

well, i am allowing access to ie5.5 so i doubt thats it. what do you mean a program or feature? something in ie5 or in zonealarm? remember sometimes it works. Also like i said it was ok until i updated ZA. nothing else has been changed (by me).

Did you completely remove the old ZA before installing the new version??

No i didnt, i have done so many install and unistalls its hard to keep track of the situation but i believe i disabled ZA in the taskbar and then updated the current version (so i thought). it looks like i have downloaded two version of ZA one labled "zone" and the other "zonealarm" both are the same size. Any idea how to clean up the old ZA? i saw some info at there web site about ZA (where its installed etc.) i'll try to elminate it that way.

Can you access the internet without ZoneAlarm running?

yes i can, everything works great without ZA. if i start it up(ZA) i have to unistall for my internet to work. simpling turning it off doesnt help. i recently tried removing some of the files left behind when you unistall ZA. this didnt help. Whats also strange is sometimes it does work, maybe 1/4 of the time. I have got an email to ZA support we'll see what they say. I am impressed with the support they give for a free program. (ask me later if is still feel this way http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif
Do you have any ideas?

http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/eek.gif Uh........ Not that I can think of off hand. If ZA runs, try setting your NIC or any other hardware you use to get to the net as local. That might do it. It seems like ZA isn't registering something... Your sure the internet lock is disabled? Programs are set to access the internet? That should be obvious tho http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif. ZA works great for me. Wierd.

Just uninstall both and then download what you want.

Well i think i got it, i downloaded once again the latest ZA, installed it in its default location (this is different from all the other times, in the other failed attempts i created my own directory, i believe this was the main culprit!) set the security level of the internet to medium and whoo hooo it works, no problems as of yet. Its a bummer that i cant get it to work in "high" as the previous version but its better than nothing. Looks like ZA doesnt like to be moved from its default directory.
Another strange thing i noticed i have 2 enternet icons in the current running programs area, why 2? strange. i am almost afraid to screw with it for fear of messy it up....ah hell i'll screw with it.... http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif thx all for your assistance!

Hey wileybot, Are you saying that you have 2 Zone Alarm icons on your system tray (by your clock)? Shouldn't need 2. Double click each one and see if they both pull up the proggy. If so, or if it tells you it is looking for it, Right click and delete one. On your settings, I have local set to medium and Internet set to high. Why don't you sent me an email, maybe I can help you out. http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/wink.gif I'm in profiles.
