View Full Version : Linky Router & Zone Alarm
One of my PCs (win 98se) has ZoneAlarm installed, and all of the computers are connected to a linky router which is then connected to a cable modem. One day, the ZoneAlarm from the win98 machine reported that someone (it listed his/her IP) if trying to ping me or something from the outside... how did that person do so? did s/he ping (or whatever s/he did) my WAN IP? or LAN IP? how did s/he get through my router? since I also had my win2K machine running at that time, how come that machine didn't report such issue? how did s/he getthrough my router?

Hi Aristo,
If you are using the Linksys Cable/DSL Router, you need to set it up to not accept unsolicited requests. Log into the router, select the advanced tab, check the box to enable blocking WAN requests. Until you enable that feature, the router simply forwards requests to your network. Make sute to set your security level for high for the internet. PS: I get pinged all the time.

Not a good idea to use two different firewalls as like using two different virus scans, they cause conflicks, Thats # 1.
Also agree with the first re-ply to your question, check Wan ports, do you do on-line games?

Aristo,Yes, it is a good idea to have a hardware firewall and a software firewall. But, you must have them set correctly. See this thread: http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/Forum6/HTML/000417.html
