I've noticed that there are a lot of people out there who are too quick to assume that because their firewall detected a port probe - they must have been attacked by some benevolent hacker who is trying to steal their data. Anyone with a moderate knowledge of networking can quickly download the tools needed to generate a port probe. Tools such as Cyberkit - which I use to test pings, routes and find public ftp sites - also will register on a firewall as a hacker attack.

Seems to me that there are more paranoid people than there are actually victims of hackers.

I agree with you. I also do not have a firwall set up on sys. Sick of the alerts.
Just have nic and tcp/ip and thats it.
