Hi, all,
Just got a simple question, is the linksys 4 port router secure enough? Do I need any other firewall software, I got the Norton personal firewall, is it any good? Thanks in advance!

Yes I was wondering the same thing. I just got the 4port router and am a little parinoid anyway so I run ZA on all nodes on the LAN. Is this really nessecary. I did a check at "Steve Gibsons" both with and without ZA and all ports on all nodes come back STEALTH. I still like to feel secure though. I also like that that ZA checks outbound packets also http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif

It's sort of over-kill if you ask me. I have the Linksys Cable/DSL Router and it is more than secure for me. I run Hacktracer to see who is tryin to scan my ports and it also lets me trace the IP back to its origin and alert the ISP that owns the IP that they are attempting to hack into my PC. But I don't really use it for security reasons since the router is enough to prevent a hacker from hacking my PC.

Just out of curiousity, has anyone ever had a hacker get past their Linksys Router or any router for that matter?
Nope.........
Have had my firewalls (soft) up behind the router and never had a problem.
Of course, if you were infected with a "bad" program, and it were to access the net, it could allow a connection that your router would not block.
Just something to think about.

Wouldn't a antivirus scanner catch a program that would change your router settings?
Haven't heard of any proggies that will modify router settings.
I wouldn't worry about that for now.
As far as I know, there are no programs that will open anything on a router.
This thread does give people ideas though. http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif
I'm sure someone has thought of that and is coding a program as we speak.
Of course it would have to be "browser / router specific". The program would be taregeted at the type of OS/browser/router that you have.
I would not be afraid right now.
Peace,
FunK
I would think that anyone who had that level of knowledge would be more interested in turning that knowledge into cold hard cash (legitimately) rather that poking around someone's home computer and not making a nickel. :-)
