you should put a tutorial in speedguide.net on how to researh properly, and how to find information on your own before asking people for help (eg. using search engines such as google.com and typing the keyword on the topic that you want) tell me what you think
I second that. Not so much the Google idea, but a quick tutorial on how to search the UBB / vB would be great.
Some people need to be shown the way.
FunK
Yeah....good idea! I have helped others and have been helped by simply searching the forums here on SG. I have also been doing a lot of research on search tools themselves and have found many specialty search engines that provide a lot of info. Google and Deja.com have merged so there is alot more info there from newsgroups than what most newbies know about.
But I do feel that I gained the most tweaking experience from talking to others directly on the forum & I think that by directing others to search engines first may alienate some folks. I know I would as I found speedguide.net through a search engine. I would hate to be directed back through one to find my answers but would appreciate the offer so that I could understand the why's behind the how to's.
Most material on the net is good, but you still need to talk to people one on one to see what works...that's why I believe we are a community here on SG rather than a portal... or am I wrong?
G-Code...I do see your point and feel it is perfectly valid...when I try to help people here on SG...sometimes I do the searching for them which can drive you a little batty but if it helps them like you cats helped me then I guess that is the price I pay for being helped! :D
Just wanted to piggyback with this edit that it would be a nice feature to put links in each forum that deals with that forums content like for instance the programming forum...you could put a link to sourcebank.com in there. Or maybe we could all put links to our specialty in our sigs...just a thought but LOBO has done a nice job with that help page of his and I refer to it often so that people can get an idea of what they need to do. :D

all i wanted was any of the admins to add a tutorial on how to search for info on the net, of course people can just ask in the forums for help and we try our best to help them,i just wanted an admin to add a tutorial link for the people on how to search for info they need if we cannot find an answer for them
I'm in total agreement with you! :D
Why don't you write it up yourself and send it in...that way it gets done sooner rather than later...you got the smarts to do it! ;)

i know i have the knowledge to make the tutorial, probably when i have the time on my hands to do it, lol forget it, i'll just do the research myself and answer them on the forums
if anyone wants to write an article and submit it to Philip feel free to do so, we will look at it and if it fits our scope and is of professional quality for posting we will put it up most likely...
