My internet is from cable. It(cable box) originates from a box in my carport and runs to the opposite end of my house to a modem then a router. I built an apartment on the other side of my carport. Can the cable be split to the new section? Could I use another modem and then another router or do I have to run new wire from the old router to the new section. If I do that will the signal lessen through extended wire? I am running a d-link dl-524 router and I have a Linksys-g w/ speedboost.I am not up on all the jargon, so please explain it to me in simple terms. Thanks to all who can help....Stan

Linksys what? What's the exact model of the Linksys wifi router or access point?

You will have to run a cat5 cable from the DLink router to a LAN (not WAN or INTERNRT) port on the Linksys wifi device. Put the wifi router in the attic of the house and you will probably get a good wireless connection to it from the new section of the house. Or run the cat5 all the way over to the new section. There won't be any degradation of signal if cat5 is less than 300'.
