View Full Version : access points and/or adhoc connectivity
Hi
can anyone tell me if there is a technical difference between a wifi access
point and a wireless network card in adhoc mode( when it is setup to accept
incoming connections), let me explain, I want to connect a Sony PSP to
internet, it can do it through an access point , but it can not connect to
my laptop in adhoc mode ( I can connect other laptops to my laptop in this
mode).
some where I've read that there are some wireless NICs that can emulate an
access point, is it true? if true does this mode has a special name?
thanks in advance

Hi
Turning a Wireless card to an Access Point cost much more than buying a good
Wireless cable DSL Router and using it as an Access Point.
Does the PSP Wireless card suppose to do Ad-HOC? Not every card can.

it has a special kind of ad-hoc as Sony complained, it has a mode named
"adhoc" but in that mode it tries to find only other PSPs to share a
multiplayer game.you said "Turning a Wireless card to an Access Point", so
does it mean its always possible? I'm not doing this for its cost, its just
a technical experience. can you tell me if it is a kind of software issue or
a hardware one that restricts these two to communicate in adhoc mode?
thanks

Hi
It is something specific to the Sony Hardware.
I would suggest to try Sony Support group
