xp OS StandBy mode problem

when i install xp operating system iam not able to enable standby mode. it is disable mode. what is the problem can anyone give the solution for this.

Reset BIOS to default
When you installed the OS...did you install all the proper drivers, including motherboard/chipset .INFs?
Windows updates?

If those don't, see if there's an updated BIOS for your motherboard in case it's an older one.
