I have a cable modem with ethernet output. I was looking to hook it up with an existing DSL Wirelss router i have. so that i could use my laptop anywhere in my house. Is there a possibility ? I have already tried by connecting ethernet output of cable modem with the ethernet port of the DSL wireless router. THe internet connection is via the cable modem.

Try taking the cable from the modems lan port to the routers wan port make sure the router is in a routed mode ,and also that dynamic addressing is on at the dsl modem conenction setup ,or wan options ,and all the pppoe/pppoa settings are blank..
If you could find the manual for the dsl modem ,or google the model#/brand in routed mode it might have more clearer better options. If the router doesn't get an ip from the cable modem i would try using the crossover though..First google though before running out to buy a new cable.

I just got a DSL modem. I was using a cable modem with a ethernet cable to my Apple Extreme wireless router. Because I was lazy, I just ran a line from my DSL modem to the Apple router and everything worked great immediately. All my security setting on the Apple were still in effect.
My DSL modem also is wireless. As an experiment, I turned on the wireless feature, set a new SSID with a different WPA setting and now I could receive both signals with no apparent loss of speed.
If you haven't solved your problem yet, I would suggest you try it with all security settings off (WEP, WPA, Mac ID). If you can then connect with your laptop, your problem is with your security settings.
