I am currently having a problem with my internet download speed...here is some background info:

We have had satellite internet for the past year without a problem, getting speeds of around 900-1000kbps which is what we should be getting according to our plan. In the new year, my laptop crashed and I had to send it away for warranty work which required the hdd and motherborad to be replaced. Ever since we got it back we are lucky to get speeds of 400-500kbps!! What would have changed in our computer to have caused such a thing??!!?? For the past few months we thought it was a problem with our provider and actually had them come out and do a service call and found that the problem is somewhere within our computer. The tech could not see a problem anywhere on his end and finally brought in his own laptop, connected to our internet and got over 1100!!! As soon as he plugged it back into mine it dropped back down to 500ish. Can anyone give me an idea of what may be going on??? It just hasn't been the same since we got the computer back!! (We are running Windows Vista HP and use a wireless d-link...and strangely enough we get a better speed when it is not directly connected with a LAN line as compared to staying wireless!!)

Thanks!!

Ok try this if you could remember the day it was running sluggish see if you can do a system restore to an eailer date. My guess is that either the driver got updated though windows update ,or some other update threw off the speed....

Thanks, I'll see what I can sort out as the problem started when I got my lapop back from repair (new hdd and motherboard) before that it worked fine!! It has been ever since I got it back and I'm not sure what a restore point would be as it was returned with a new OS and had to start from scratch...so not sure what would be different from when I bought it new in the first place????

My problem is solved!! I got fed up with trying all sorts of things to correct the problem and reinstalled my OS and as soon as I did my speed was back to normal...as I added different programs I would speed test again to see if it was creating my speed to slow and found that it was my antivirus program bit defender causing the problem!! I would install it, and my speed would drop, I'd take it out and my speed would bounce back...I contacted them, ran a few tests that they asked and sent them the results, and now everything is working fine. Thank Goodness!!:)
