I'm in need of some help with my super slow internet. I've been attempting to download some things and I'm getting about 30 KBps. We have a cable modem, so I'm thinking it should be a lot faster. I don't even know what info you guys need, so let me know and I'll get it. And please be gentle :) Thanks!

Whats your Internet Service Provider - Cable company?

What package do you pay for?

Do you use a router also?

Post a TCP Analyzer report so we can look at your settings.

Are you spyware/virus/malware free?

Computer specs?

Thanks for the reply...

We're using ACS. We're supposed to get 1.0 mb download speed? i can ask for more info on that but that's what I remember...we do use a router, and currently this computer is hooked up to that (a netgear rangemax duo wireless-n router) by ethernet cord. I am also virus free and all that.

Here's the report...

oh, and the computer specs...

It's an HP Pavillion with 1 gb of ram running vista and a 2.3 ghz dual core processor. Let me know if you need more info.

Vista cannot be tweaked with TCP Optimizer !

Do a tracert yahoo.com and post !

Well you never asked to use the optimzer so I didn't assume you were... but your sure your spyware free and malware free?? Run a scan with superantispyware and see if it picks up anything just for the hell of it.

Also go to speedtest.net and post a few tests from random places across the country so i can get a idea of your routing. Also just FYI Vista likes to run with 2gigs of ram or more.. 1 gig is likely causing you problems and Ram is very cheap...check over on newegg for prices I'm sure you will be more than surprised at the cost of adding at least 2 more gigs.

Googling ACS comes up with Alaska Communications Systems. Its DSL not cable.

They offer 3 tiers, 3 mbps, 1 mbps, and 320 kbps.

If you're on the 320 kbps plan your speeds are pretty normal.

http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=2574 try the vista patch to optimizer the values to get the most out of the connection.
