I've been having this issue since i switched to a new provider, it's nothing i've seen before either in my job or at home..

Every once in a while, the broadband connection just stops any new connections. browsers time out, can't open new internet based programs - games/msn messenger/download utils. However any programs that were already open when the connection went down remain working fine.

Example of this is 2 people in the house are avid MMORPG players, so we -always- have those games open. I always have msn open. Now occasionally we find that when we go to check the internet, or start a download or something, the connection is down. But we're still in the game, and msn is still working. A router restart generally fixes the problem.

It's the same for the wired and wireless connections. It seems to be based on the amount of devices we have connected, or the usage going on, although i can't be sure of that. It has still happened in times of low usage.

Anyone got any ideas? thanks for any input!
