Jammie Thomas, who was ordered to pay $$222,000 to a group of music labels for allegedly pirating songs using the Kazza peer-to-peer service, has been granted a new trial. Michael J. Davis, the chief judge presiding over the U.S. District Court of Minnesota, ordered the mistrial after concluding that an instruction the court gave to the jury was erroneous, and that the instruction had prejudiced the jury against Thomas.
