My upload speed is gone!

Or anyway, as near to nothing as to be nonexistent.

I have normal download speed through my cable internet service from Suddenlink. The cable guy came out and test both the line in to my house, my ethernet cable, and the modem and all were working. He got perfect service on his laptop plugging directly into my modem.

So this must be some kind of software problem on my computer. It started about three days ago and I hadn't installed any software in that time except for some updates to Mozilla add-ons and a Windows automatic update.

I have since turned off the Windows Firewall, uninstalled Mozilla, AVG Free, and any other program I thought might be crippling my upload speed, but still there is no relief.

Virus checks and malware searches come up clean.

This is frustrating and I can't figure out why this is persisting. Please, if anyone has any advice, please reply before I just wipe my hard drive and start all over.

Okay, so I did everything I did before a second time and it's back to normal. I don't much like not having the firewall on, though. Can someone recommend a replacement?

Use a router. Its NAT function provides a hardware firewall.
