Hi everyone,

First off, thank you for taking the time and reading this post.

About a week ago, I bought a new Gateway FX computer with Windows Vista x64. It has built in wireless. At home I have comcast home networking with the Netgear CG814WG Modem/Router. This has Comcast controlled firmware on it. The issue is this: The new computer with connect to the wireless network, and it will say its connected to the internet, but no web pages will load. I have tested my computer at various other places (my work, my parent's house, starbucks, and friend's houses) and the internet works perfectly there, even if that house is using comcast. Because of this, I feel it must be a problem with this specific Netgear modem/router. Right now, I am using an older desktop system, with Windows XP, and the internet is running fine, and my roommate's three computers all work fine.

Would this be caused by IPv6 tunneling?
I have turned off the IPv6 click box in the Wireless Adapter's property box and this does nothing for the internet, however, this does not shut off IPv6 tunneling, and I am hesitant to alter the registry through regedit as I am a terrible newb and don't actually know what I am doing.

I have called Comcast, and all they say is that everything is working fine from their end. Any and all replies appreciated, and Thank you for reading.

In a nutshell:
If you bought all of your networking equipment from Comcast, they should send out a technician to fix it and you should insist on it. If you bought your cable modem and/or router on your own from another company, then you are stuck. You might consider buying Comcast's $150 home networking package.

Here's the long version:
Do a search online and you'll see this is a common problem with Comcast customers. However, it usually only happens to people who set up their own wireless routers or cable modems to work with Comcast Internet service. You seem to indicate you purchased the Comcast Home Networking system, which includes a Linksys cable gateway (combination wireless router and cable modem device) provided by Comcast to the customer for around $150. Is that right?

If you purchased all of your networking equipment from Comcast, they should be providing tech support and should also send a technician out to resolve the problem. They clearly cannot blame this on your computer. If you have your own personal wireless router connected to a Comcast cable modem you'll find that is a problem. Comcast tech support will have you connect the laptop directly to the cable modem and when the Internet works, they'll tell you the wireless router you bought is the problem. Comcast won't admit it, but many people suspect they prevent third party routers from working to encourage you to buy the wireless system Comcast sells. I am in this boat and am considering paying the $150 for the Comcast provided Linksys gateway, because it includes the Comcast-controlled firmware that would presumably prevent you from being disconnected.

Your answer as to whether you bought the Comcast equipment or use your own will help me make my decision so I'd appreciate any posting you add. Thanks.
