Yea my question is can you set your own ip at your house without having to call your isp? I know there is a way, I just cant figure it out. Could someone post how to set your own WAN Ip Address please. Maybe with a program or something in your router settings? Please post.

Thanks.

If you're talking about WAN IP? If you desire a static IP account, need to call ISP and upgrade to one.

dynamic IP DSL WAN IPs usually change frequently, and you need a PPPoE user/pass to log in. Can't log in without that..your username and password is what governs if you're a dynamic IP, or a static IP account..you cannot fool that.

With cable, your set your router to "obtain auto". Your IP usually remains the same for a decent period of time. While you can get away with plugging in a static IP on the WAN interface of your router...eventually it will set off some alarms at your ISP...probably preventing some other poor legitimate person from loggin in, and lead to trouble.

If you need to get to your home IP address frequently, you can setup dynamic DNS services....many of which are free, and easy to setup.
Dyndns.org is one popular service. You register an "alias" with them, such as "playa17.homeip.net". You run software on your computer which keeps track of your WAN IP and updates their dns servers whenever it changes. Many routers also support this service in their web admin. So whenever your IP changes, you can also connect to home using "playa17.homeip.net".

Yeah based on that picture, you're on PPPoE DSL.
You won't be able to fool it....your IP address is "controlled" by your ISPs DHCP policies, and your PPPoE username and password. If you have a basic home setup, which is dynamic IP, your PPPoE username and password is set to hand you an IP address from their DHCP servers dynamic pool.

If you need a static IP address, call your ISP, upgrade to a static IP account (it is more money), and then they will assign a static IP address to your PPPoE username and password. Or some DSL ISPs will give you a static IP, subnet, and gateway...to manually enter yourself.

But you can't go "fool" your ISP, unless you enjoy getting shut off...and possibly impacting some other innocent persons connection.
