AV...NOD32, Kaspersky, AntiVir, they're all consistently ranking well at av-comparatives.org
FW...Comodo, PCTools seems to be gathering a large crowd lately

I use comodo 64 bit it picks up on everything which is annoying at first but after you have it trained its very useful. I won't change for a long time.

Cat, I heard NOD32 firewall that comes with smart security is pretty weak. Do you find this to be true? Do you find Comodo, PCTools to be much better than it?

I have not heard that about Esets ESS, it works quite well, fairly light as far as 3rd party software firewalls go. I've used Comodo, have not used PCTools, I pretty much don't use 3rd party software firewalls, IMO I don't need 'em.

Yeah it does an advertisement each time it updates. Similar to other antivirus products that notify you when you get definition updates, the good thing is it keeps you informed that it's still updating.
However, you can kill the notify process...
