I am thinking about getting one here is the Canon Rebel EOS XSI
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830120262

and here is the Canon 40D
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830120229

Any suggestions on which I should get? I know the XSI has more pixels but the 40D has a faster shutter.

No, I'm not saying that.

What I said was, if you go with the XSi you can get it cheaper at Beach Camera.

Have you held either camera in your hands?

See which one feels better.

Lots of info here also....

LOL I have read all those reviews you've listed twice. I have held both cameras and have to easily say the 40D feels much better, it feels heavier in a good way. No need for a battery grip, doesn't have that cheap plasticy feel, not saying the XSI is cheap just feels like my D Rebel. I am just trying to get user opinions on which to buy, no review I have read has compared them or recommended one over the other. But from everything I have read the 40D is superior to the XSI in everything but MP 12>10 but the shutter is twice as fast on the 40D like 6.5 to 3.5, and has more ISO settings. Rule of thumb I guess is that if it costs more its probably better but I need to order before the 19th there is a instant rebate right now.

Thanks

Sounds like you're leaning towards the 40D, for only 300 more you'll definately get more camera or you could get the body only if you've got lens already.

The better made body and faster 5fps were the reasons I went with the 30D
when I made my purchase.

Cheapest I could find for body only

Looks like newegg has the best price with kit lens.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll be happy with it. :thumb:

Thanks. Thats where I'll get it from anyway my company has a discount through them. Honestly I would take the XSI if it was the better camera but everything points towards the 40D. But then I get a lot of people telling me the camera is only as good as the lens. I'll probably get the 40D.

My optometrist utilizes an XSI for his retinal camera.

I was under the impression that the newer CMOS offered superior color.

I drove my wife nuts when i was trying to choose between a canon rebel xt and a nikon d40. I wound up with the Canon...got a great deal and i think its easier to find the lenses locally. Good Luck either way you cant lose with Canon.
