My speed tests results show a result of 55000 kbps when connected directly. But when i connect using through a router i get a speed of 15000 kbps. I have 2 connected through LAN and 1 wirelessly.

So even if the other two machines are on, but idle should i expect my speed to be slow? And if so is there anything i can do to achieve maximum speeds on all computers, such at adding a switch/hub?

Any advice, thx in advance. BTW my router is a WRT54G v3.

The router itself, an older model, is most likely the bottleneck...not capable of the high throughput. Your 15 megs of throughput sounds low...I believe that v3 version of the old wrt54gl was capable of low 20's in throughput. But it doesn't have the horsepower to keep up with the 55 megs of your ISPs bursting speeds (Comcast w/Powerboost?)

Can try updating the routers firmware to the latest version...
Also can try some 3rd party firmware such as DD-WRT...which can squeeze a "little" more performance out of it. But bottom line..the old models from years ago just don't have the horsepower for todays faster connections...it's a limit of the routers CPU and RAM.
