Setup: Gateway P-6160FX Laptop - Vista Ultimate SP1 64bit - Wireless USR8054

When playing games, I usually get around 30 - 90 ping depending on the server, however I still experience a lot of lag. For instance, running from point A to point B, half way I'm back at or near point A. I think the term for this is warping. Projectiles like Rockets I see doing the same thing, sometimes though I don't even see their smoke trailing effect. The range, I get reported Very Good or above. Also tried sitting right next to the router. No change.

When plugged into a direct line, I do not have these problems. I also tried on another laptop (an old Toshiba I believe), and ran into the same thing for the wireless.

Any help/suggestions is greatly appreciated. :)

No, Unreal and Source based games.

I figured that, was thinking maybe a newer router would've helped, but didnt want to spend money to be stuck with the same problem.

I was wondering about those Powerline Ethernet adapters. Would that be okay for gaming? If so, any recommended brands?

There is a "gamers" wireless router you can buy http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=370&#DGL-4300 . check for reviews or read the fine print on the bottom of the specs page. I would recommend making sure you can return it if it does not meet your needs.

I have never been a fan of anything wireless other than Sat and cells, too much interference and Bs bcz your neighbor is baking a potato in the microwave etc.
*puts on tinfoil hat*
Everything is 2.4GHRZ phones routers all kinds of crap

get out the cordless drill and drill a few holes in the wall or ceiling/floor, run your cat5 on some cheap router and your good to go ;)

Right, but I dont have the confidence to do so. :nope:

Also, would like to keep the laptop mobile.

Anyone know what brand YeOldeStonecat got for his Powerline Ethernet? Figured it would be better if it does in fact acts like or gets near ethernet quality. I would also be able to move the receiver around to other parts in the house.

If not...a klutz with a power drill it is. :crash:

For online gaming...they worked just as well as if I had run CAT5 cable. Was totally better than wireless. And I have a TON of different wireless gear to try.

I had the Linksys PLK200 model..worked great with a pair of them..when I introduced a 3rd...starting having hiccups. Not using them anymore...they may have fixed that with firmware upgrades. Netgear makes some, also Zyxel I believe. Yeah a little pricey depending on your budget..try keeping an eye out for a pair on fleabay.

Thank you both!

Going with Zyxel only because theres a $30 rebate, which makes its price near that if I just bought another router.

And it says you can have up to 64, not going to try that though.
