Not that great at troubleshooting this Networking stuff. Wondered if you might be able to help.
My girlfriend just got Verizon DSL for her PC. I used to have a Wireless connection to Comcast ISP.
I just recently moved in and now want to use her internet access on my PC as well. So I went out and picked up a wired Ethernet router.
I connected the cable from her PC to the router in port 1 (there are 4 ports for additional pc) and then a enthenet wire from the router to the modem. After all that, she was still able to get internet.
I then connected my PC in the same manner, using port 2 but no internet. I tried port3 and 4 and still nothing.
On the router, Port 1 has an indicator light to indicate that there is a connection. But that is not happening on port 2 when I plug my PC into Port2.
I checked my device and found that my motherboard (ASUS P5NSLI)uses a Marvel Yukon Gigabit Network Adapter. The Device Manager displays an exclamaition point over the adapeter and when I view details, it says "This device cannot be started (Code 10)."
I tried using the troubleshooter. No Luck.
I went to Asus for my mobo and updated the drivers. Again... nothing.
I never had any problems with internet in my old place when I was set up with the Comcast ISP and a Wireless system.
Ive uninstalled all my wireless software so Im not sure why my network adapter is all of sudden, not working.
Im on the bring of calling in at home tech support but thought I'd check the forums first. Any thoughts or suggestions?
