I got this thing about 2 weeks ago and have had problems from the start. it will drop it's connection constantly for some reason and I can't figure out why. In it's modem log it says

2008-05-15 23:24:43 error SW upgrade Failed after download - Incompatible SW file
2008-05-15 23:24:36 notice SW Download INIT - Via Config file d11_c_wcg200v2_standard_c01.cm
2008-05-15 23:23:52 critical No UCD's Received - Timeout
2008-05-15 23:23:41 critical Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, But no Unicast Maintenance opportunities received - T4 timeout
2008-05-15 23:10:58 critical No UCD's Received - Timeout
2008-05-15 23:09:40 critical SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire FEC framing
2008-05-15 23:09:39 critical SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire QAM/QPSK symbol timing

After that happens the whole thing resets and won't reconnect. It says it's access to the internet is denied. Happens on the wireless connection and I can't remeber it happing on the wired connection. My only thought is comcast is sending an update that it doesn't like. Any help would be welcome.

Can you verify by plugging a PC into the gateway via ethernet cable?

Yeah its been plugged in all night with ethernet cable downloading away and its still connected. I've also tryed disabling all the security except for WPA and it hasn't help.

Need to isolate "what's dropping"...is it your connection to the gateway? When things appear to drop..can you still connect to the web interface at 192.168.1.1?

Or...is it your WAN connection that's dropping. When your PC is connected to the gateway and things appear to drop...you mean your connection to the internet?

Have you called your ISP and asked them to "re-provision" it? They will upload a fresh config file to the modem component of your gateway.

The connection to the gateway remains stable but the gateways connection to the internet no longer functions. I can still login to the gateway using 192.168.0.1 but under the status section it says Network Access - Denied. Right now as I write this it says Network Access - Allowed. I talked to comcast once and the guy said the firmware was provided by Linksys all they did was distribute it. The file they keep sending it keeps getting denied so I'm wondering why they keep sending it out. What should I ask comcast to do if I call them?

I would call them...read them the error you see..and ask them to reprovision your gateway. Tell them the exact make/model/version.

Hello,

I have been experiencing the exact same problem using a Linksys WCG200 Wireless Gateway. I see that the modem is still technically online (it has a valid IP address) but the "Network Access - Denied". I've called Comcast a half dozen times and haven't spoken with anyone intelligent enough to explain what that means yet.

Cerebrus, did you purchase your gateway or are you renting it from Comcast? Also, does your gateway support the docsis 2.0 standard or 1.0/1.1 standard only? I'm not sure what the docsis standard is, but I believe I've seen that Comcast uses 2.0, and I'm not sure if they are backwards compatable with the older version.

One of the many Comcast techs I spoke with told me that I needed the "Home Networking Package" to use the wireless functionality. Can there be any truth in this? Can Comcast charge extra for wireless access and can they disable my equipment if I don't pay extra?

Basically, probably should have gone with DSL. So much for 15megabit service.

Once you experience the 20+ megs of Powerboost...you would think DSL feels like dial up. I had Comcast for a long time...they don't service where I just moved to....I sure miss the speeds.
