Wife had new"er" computer..that she had added a lot of iTunes music to.
Her "old" computer that hadn't been used in a long time....also had iTunes..and a ton of music she had way back when...mostly totally different. Not knowing iTunes...I simply copied the "My Documents" folder over to her new PC....copying right on top of her current My Documents folder. Whatever documents, pictures..and..MUSIC..was on her old PC..over to the new one. I figured iTunes would simply suck up the old songs that went into the My Music itunes folder.

Apparently not...as her "library" went back to the old one..all her song lists or whatever..gone..to the old one.

:wth: Guess there was also some iTunes configuration file in there. So..what's the way to quickly suck all the other songs back in.

i think you can just drag the files back into the music section of itunes and it'll add them to its little xml db for you. that's been my experience in the past. if the music is drm laden then itunes on the new machine has to be logged into and "authorized" on the same itunes account that the old music was purchased under. also, although i use itunes to listen to music on my mac, i like amazon's music store a good bit :)

edit: whether or not you have to drag the files out of the itunes music directory first or not, i'm a little iffy on but i think they can just stay in that directory.

YOS,

I am not familiar with iTune, but with Napster. In Napster, under the account profile, there is an entry showing which PC is authorized to download music. We can delete a PC and add a new one under that option but it has some kind of time restriction how often we can do it. It is that damn, music restriction that restricting to transfer to other PCs. It allows up to three PCs. When I copied like you did, it didn't work. So, I logged in from the new PC but didn't let me download. So, I called them and they let me download into new PC after giving the details of the PC. I didn't have to copy from the old PC, but soon after logged into the account from the new PC, it ask me if I need to download all the files from the library that I paid for it. So, it automatically downloaded everything directly from their server.

I think under her account profile with iTune may have something similar.

SO, log into her account from the new PC to register that PC with their server. That may solve that trouble.
