Ok my boss is offically out the door! the new boss starts july 1st! so now they are coming to me since i am next inline. Today my boss's boss came to and asked me a question and i really don't know where to get started! here is what was asked of me:
"Listen we are having a hard time with this wireless setup. (being that in this school we have home wireless routers running the wireless network) I would like to see all the wireless named the same name so that way when we are in one part of the school and then go to another part of the school there would be no change or drop. I want you to come up with a setup that we can use here in this school to put the whole school wireless"

So i was thinking of a way to do it. Now if i take the linksys routers that we have here and name them all the same name i can see that working, but at the same time i can see a conflict. I can see the pc dropping and connecting to different routers all the time and i can see a big mess ahead of me! So i was thinking back to my school days. We had access points in the whole building and we never dropped connection no matter what room we where in. I want to do the same thing here in this building. What do i need to get and how do set it up to do all of this? The school is not to big it has three wings all in a triangle shape pretty much. let me know what you know! :)

Where you the one that had a post about a bunch of Linksys wrt54g routers all slapped together? If so...can you find out which "version" each one is?

You can get the network quite stable with your current crop of wrt54g routers...if they're the correct versions (no version 5)...you can flash them with DD-WRT firmware..which adds a lot of functionality and stability.

ok just went around and did the count. i have 7 version 5 1 version 2 and 2 dell true moble 2300 wx556 5d. but i am not sure if i was making myself clear as to what i want to do. they want to do a setup where there is no dropping connection on streaming connection from one point to another point. i have seen it done and i know its going to cost money what do you think i am going to need for that?

Just 1x v1...and the rest are 5..hmmm.
Technically you can flash V5 with a mini version of the firmware..but I heard it's a pain.

Well....if you have some budget....my favorite business grade access points are HP ProCurve series. I've done some of the 420 units...love 'em

You can manage several access points through 1x control center software package you install on a PC.
