I just recently got this laptop and it has been working great, but now it runs slower than dialup while browsing the web. The computer itself works fast but when I use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox it takes forever to load a page and download anything. I have run spybot, ad aware, avg and there are no infections. I have done disk defrag and disk check. I have tried to install cc cleaner but I can't download it because it stops halfway and hangs. I ran a ping and that looks great but the speed tests are horrible - like REALLY horrible. ALSO, I have used another computer on this network and it is 100 times faster. If anyone has an idea of what could be wrong here please let me know - any help is greatly appreciated!

WINXP
Mozilla Firefox & IE Browsers

1.Disk Defragmented
2. Disk Checked - No Errors
3. SPYBOT Scan- SYSTEM CLEAN
4. AD AWARE Scan - SYSTEM CLEAN
5. AVG Scan - SYSTEM CLEAN
6.IE Browser Cache Emptied
7. Mozilla Firefox Cache Emptied
8. Restored Default Browser settings for both IE and Mozilla
9: Dns Cache Flushed

Don't ping the localhost, ping yahoo.com and post result. Then do tracert yahoo.com.

Okay well I read about tracer routes or trace routes and I think these are really good times right? So maybe its something on my computer itself? What could it be does anyone know??? Ty for your help!

Those tracert response times are excellent.
Probably something on your system, such as antivirus or firewall.

omg after all of that I went into the windows firewall control area and unchecked "Don't allow exceptions" And I think this fixed it! I also uninstalled an ICQ toolbar but I think it was the firewall! Thanks a million! lol a lot to go through but maybe this will save someone some time in the future! Ty
