I had a FTP Server running on one computer a while back.
I had a Network Everyware (made by Linksys) router.. and everything
was running fine.. port forward 20 and 21.. no problems.
Now I have a Westel 6100 Router / Modem Wired combo,
one ethernet port on the Westell to a basic netgear gigabyte switch.
What confuses me.. is that my old configuration.. I use to be able to log
in to the FTP via my Dynamic I.P. address from my ISP. On the computer
that was running the FTP or another workstation on my LAN.
Now with this new configuration.. I can not. I can log into the FTP server
using the static I.P. of the FTP server nic card via the LAN,
but not via the Dynamic I.P. address from my ISP.
I hooked up my old analog modem and used Juno dial up.. and was able to
connect to the FTP's Dynamic I.P. address.. so I know it is working.
I'm just confused on why this new router / modem combo won't let me on.
I was thinking it has something to do with that Westell 6100 is more like
a "bridge" then a actual "router"? Does that sound right?
Tks!
