ive filled in the optimization settings but when i try to apply these to my computer i get an error saying 'this current user avvount doesnt have permission to write to registry hives,please login with administrator priviliges' im on windows vista and im on the only account ive created for my pc,does anyone know how i can changes this or know of anyways to improve my connection its crappy i got 2mbs broadband and my speedtest was 300lkbs ,if you can help me out id be grateful

Vista cannot be tweaked. It is auto-tuning.

Make sure auto-tuning is enabled.

Go to start-run and paste this " netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal " and hit enter. Reboot the comp and test speed.

thanks for the help but i need a little more help if you could,ok ive done that and rebooted it went up to 1.4mbs which was good but an hour later it went crap again and ive rebooted again and it went upto 600kbs then went as low as 187 kbs this is my latest

im on jersey telecoms isp ,channel islands uk and i have a netgear wireless-g dg834g router

if anyone could help me figure out a tweak that would be consistent id be thankful and also my download rates on limewire are decent but for bittorrent they are worse than dial up is this anything to do with the tcp or is bittorrent jus rubbish

sorry i just paused my bittorrent and tested again and it went upto 1200mbs down and 300 up is there anywhere that i can download torrents with good speed my downloads currently have good seeding so i dont see why they are going so slow

Vista auto-tunes its TCP settings. Your problem of fluctuating speed is probably due to signal quality.

Do a tracert to www.yahoo.com and post.

okay ive tried tracing yahoo.com from about 6 different tracing sites and it wont trace for me i tried tracing on command prompt and access denied
