I used my cell phone to pay for parking in a parking lot (the ticket machine was broken, this was the only way to pay). The parking lot company sent a legitmate text message when my parking time was down to 10 minutes left.
Later that night I started receiving spam text messages on my cell phone. First I got a message "Sup" from a neighboring area code which I interpret as a tester to see if my phone gets a message or the text fails to be deliverable. Once the number was confirmed to work.....The spam was from the same person/number as the parking lot company 10 minute warning called "6245". Or maybe that "Sup" original message wasn't related, who knows.
The website for setting up this account even has a privacy policy and claims it will protect your information. Sounds like BS from what I see.
1. Can I block this crap in the future or am I going to get this garbage every day?
2. If the company has a privacy policy and in theory shouldn't be doing this, does this mean the company has been hacked and probably even my credit card info is now also pirated?
3. Can I take legal action on someone (parking company) to prove a point about privacy. At the very least should I be able to contact them and get off the spam list or have they already passed my number on to a "professional spam company".
P.S. Looks like my goal of switching from a landline to avoid telemarketing has failed.
