wireless software "gives up" too easy

hi all,

I am using a standard wireless client that comes with fujitsu laptops
(odeyssy).

when I get somewhere and turn the laptop on , it tries to connect to
the first open network it sees , usually getting a "limited or no
connectivity" message.

but then it just stays that way , forcing me to go through the whole
list of networks manually , until I get one that is "truly open".

isn't there a client that just goes through all networks and tries to
ping Google or something , and only if successful stops searching?
