My issue is it takes a long time to load up pages, but when i download something, it is the normal speed that i usually get. ~40KB/s
So i think i need some optimization here
Observations; When i download, it starts slow at 5KB/s then is rises up to the steady ~40KB/s
WLAN says signal strength is excellent. I am on a wireless network. Share internet but i dont think my bro is downloading anything on the other computer. The internet speed on his computer is at normal speed so i think it is some system settings that i messed up on THIS computer.
I have run Ad-Aware 2007, Spybot, and CCleaner. All up-to-date
My connection is 512kb/s DSL i think
My ISP is amnet.au i think
I am on Windows XP
Any help is appreciated
Anything else i need posted?

Ping times between your comp and the modem are very very high.
Either you have something in your comp that is disrupting signals, or your modem is being heavily affected by strong electromagnetic interference from some nearby electical device.

I cant see any device near my comp that can be disruptive
Here is my tracert now, it kinda varies throughout the day. My problem still exists though, it takes a while loading pages
It might be this duplex settings thing i read about around here, what now?

Something is not normal. IP addresses at hop 1 and 3 are those of a router while hop 2 is a modem. Why is a modem placed between 2 routers?
Explain how your signal devices are connected, and their brand and model.

I dunno, my brother setup the network and he too busy to help me lol. I see two boxes one on top of the other, it looks designed to stack on top of the other. It is a Linksys. Am not sure of the models. I recall seeing "ethernet" and "internet".
I dont think this is the root cause of my problem though since my brother connects through these and has no problem.
Looking at TCP/IP settings my default gateway is the same as the preferred DNS server. Maybe that gives you clues?
Should i edit out my ip address from this thread?
This whole problem started when i updated bitcomet, installed some other P2P program and messed around with the system settings trying to get faster speed (including TCPOptimiser) (irony i messed it up instead). I tried system restore but it didnt work.
Ill give u the models of the boxes when i can. Anything else you need to know?

Thanks for the help trogers, but i really cant move my brothers things. If he had a problem with that, he would of done it himself.
Are there any other reasons you can think of with the info i provided?
