Download the TCP Optimizer. The link to it is at the bottom left of our main web page.

Use the latest custom settings I gave. Reboot comp to take effect. Then post a new TCP Analyzer report to check if settings are correct.

Yes, I am using Windows XP SP2
You mean TCPWindowSize or GlobalMaxTcpWindowsize ?

Both GlobalMax and TcpWindowSize should be 128480, same as in TCP Optimizer.

DefaultReceiveWindow should be left blank as any value set here will override the abovementioned 2 fields.

Got it !
And how about "393000" , what's for ?

That would be what your TCP Window will become if you enter the value for DefaultReceiveWindow

3072 x 1024 / 8 = 393216

Should I use TCPOptimizer + CableNut + Auslogic Bootspeed ?

You can use Auslogic Bootspeed to clean up your comp registry and defrag the hard disk, but not tweaks the settings for internet connection as they already have been tweaked by TCP Optimizer and Cablenut. These last 2 programs are most detailed in doing tweaks.

Auslogic Bootspeed and Tuneup Utilities cannot match them.

I usually use a proxy only to override censorship. As my signals have to pass through the proxy to reach any destination, speed is usually slow.

Your DAM has a missing file and a security risk:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=ba3ceb78-8e1b-4c38-adfd-e8bc95ae548d&displaylang=en

I usually do not allow export to Excel as this is one way hackers can get info.

Your last tracert shows your signal going through Hong Kong and then Singapore before getting to Thailand.

Use this link to check the location and ownership of IP addresses in your tracert:

Not for general web surfing. Can be done through establishing a VPN, but much work to do just for one specific destination.

From your signal route, testing speed in Hong Kong would be best among overseas test sites.

Hi Trogers !!! Please give us some advices (tips and tricks will be appreciated)

According to Voskarr TCP Analyzer Report (he's from VietNam, 5120kbps bandwidth):

TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = Bandwidth x Max. Latency divided by 8
= 5120 * 330 ms (VN) /8
= 211200

(330 ms : the Round Trip Time I tested from http://miranda.ctd.anl.gov:7123
VN: VietNam )

+ Next we divided Rwin with MSS = 211200/ 1452 = 145.45 (b)

+ If b = 146 :
=> TCP Receive Window (in TCPOptimizer) = b * MSS = 146 * 1452 = 211992
=> Bandwidth = 211992* 8 / 330 = 5139 > 5120

+ If b = 145 :
=> TCP Receive Window (in TCPOptimizer) = b * MSS = 145 * 1452 = 210540
=> Bandwidth = 210540* 8 / 330 = 5104 < 5120

So , I'd like to choose b= 145 => TCP Receive Window (in TCPOptimizer) = 210540 Is that right , Trogers ? BTW , how to calculate the multiple of MSS ?

And the result for Vosskarr :

General Settings tab:
Custom settings - check
Modify All Network Adapters - check
network adapter selection - your NIC
MTU 1492
TTL - 64
TCP Receive Window - 210540
MTU Discovery - Yes
Black Hole Detect - No
Selective Acks - Yes
Max Duplicate ACKs - 2
TCP 1323 Options:
Windows Scaling - check
Timestamps - uncheck

Advanced Settings tab:
Max Connections per Server - 10
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 20
LocalPriority - 1
Host Priority - 1
DNSPriority - 1
NetbtPriority - 1
Lan Browsing speedup - optimized
QoS: NonBestEffortLimit - 0
ToS: DisableUserTOSSetting - 0
ToS: DefaultTOSValue - 80
MaxNegativeCacheTtl - 0
NetFailureCacheTime - 0
NegativeSOACache Time - 0
LAN Request Buffer Size - 32768
Then select "Apply Changes" and reboot to take effect

Is it suitable for Vosskarr, Trogers ? Please give us some advices (tips and tricks will be appreciated). We're looking forward to hearing from you.

I would use TCP Window set to 255552.

Four reasons:

1. Latency (round trip time) is shown to be >300ms to mid-USA.

2. Calculation shows Bandwidth x Latency / 8 > 200000

3. We should make Rwin an EVEN multiple of MSS

4. 255552 gives you an unscaled Rwin of 63888, which is the highest unscaled Rwin for MTU of 1492.

I would use TCP Window set to 255552.

Could you tell me more in details?
How to get that value 255552 ?
How to make Rwin an EVEN multiple of MSS?

I might be wrong but If TCP Window set to 255552
=> Bandwidth = 255552*8/330 = 6195 kbps > 5120kbps (his bandwidth)

Could you explain, please ?

I would use TCP Window set to 255552
=> Bandwidth = 255552*8/330 = 6195 kbps > 5120 (his bandwidth)

Could you explain ?

See the recommended Rwins in TCP Analyzer when MTU is 1492 - 63888, 127776, 255552, 511104

When Rwin is > 65535 there is Window scaling

511104 = 63888 x 8 (scaling factor of 8)
255552 = 63888 x 4 (scaling factor of 4)
127776 = 63888 x 2 (scaling factor of 2)

In your calculation

Next we divided Rwin with MSS = 211200/ 1452 = 145.45 (b)

Thus we choose 146 and get MSS x 146 and not MSS x 145 as 146 is an even number.

Bandwidth is the speed your ISP is supposed to give you.

Tips on Cablenut has been given by our senior member Mccoffee at this thread:

http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=73799

There are also tips in this thread from Mnosteele, especially FORWARD BUFFER MEMORY TWEAK that you can use.

Just one warning. You have to leave DefaultReceiveWindow a blank if you are using XP SP2.

Hi Trogers! It's me again ! I'd like to ask you :

1. How to indicate the Latency (Round Trip Time) from different destinations (Asia, Europe, America) ?
2. When must we do a Tracert ?
3. When must we do a HiJackThis ?
4. How about the CacheBooster ?

What would you say ?

1. When must we do a tracert ?
2. When must we do a HiJackThis ?
3. How about the CacheBooster ?

What would you say ?

I use a tracert when speed is still slow after tweaks to check on the following:

- how signals travel and whether there is multiple router in the connection
- any exceptionally high and uneven ping times at the router and modem (in the first 2 hops)
- any packet losses along the signal route, usually shown by one or two * (but not all 3 ping times).

I use Hijackthis to spot for unusual processes that may be malware, or the registry has not been cleaned often, or some software that may be causing slow speed - like using 2 antivirus program or firewall at the same time.

Cachebooster is useful to optimize the file and system caching of the operating system for purposes that we use our PC most often. Some may use it most often for games, I use mine most often for audio/video processing. Some may use it mainly for multimedia, etc. This booster do not tweak our internet connection. It just help CPU processing.

2. How to indicate the LocalPriority ?
3. How to indicate the Host Priority ?
4. How to indicate the DNSPriority ?

For USA, we can use NDt test site like Nitro or Miranda to check round trip time.

For Europe, I make a guess at 1.6 times the ping times shown by test servers of www.speedtest.net

But we should only assume worst latency to the country we surf to most often and stick with it. I set my TCP Window to latency of about 1000ms as I download torrents from all over the world, not just the US.

The last 3 items are part of 4 and have been tweaked in TCP Optimizer and do not change: use either 1,1,1,1 or 5,6,7,8

LocalPriority - 1
Host Priority - 1
DNSPriority - 1
NetbtPriority - 1

When using TCP/IP Analyzer, I found this comment in red colour:
MTU = 1472
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband.
Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.
If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.

Should I change my MTU to 1500 or 1492 or 1480??? And with ADSL 1536kbs, what kind of connection I have? Cable or PPPoE DSL???

And with a test from http://miranda.ctd.anl.gov:7123/ I had my latency was 744ms. So with the formula
1536*744/8=142848
Reccomended RWINs: 63008, 126016, 252032, 504064
Should I choose RWIN: 126016 ???

ADSL uses MTU at 1492 (Or in WIN PPPoE - 1480).

Your MTU is limited at 1472, probably by either the settings in your router (MTU or MRU = 1472, MSS = 1432). You can try changing MTU in the router to 1492 and MSS to 1452 and save and reboot the router. Then run TCP Optimizer with MTU at 1492 and TCP Window at 63888.

Sometimes MTU may not change even by changing the settings at the router. This is probably due to some incompatibility between the firmware of the router with your ISP system. In such a case, try looking for the latest firmware for the router or use the settings I gave for MTU 1472.

In my router, I found MTU and MRU are both 1492 but MSS is 1432... There're seem to have been wrong.
I tried changing all MSS to 1452 and the computer's MTU to 1492? (I'm using XP SP2) But when using TCP/IP Analyzer, I still found it MTU:1472 and MSS:1432
If I began with 1480, it still showed at 1460
Just when I set it with 1512, it showed at 1492 and, perhaps, worked fine

Much depends on 2 things:

How close you are to your ISP's central office and how old the public telephone lines to your area are.

My ISP gives the highest paid speed of 4 mbps but because I am almost 5 km to their central office, I can only get 1 mbps. In speed tests I can only get 880 kbps because the telephone lines in my neighbourhood are over 12 years old.

Testing speed at a website far far away will not give you your true speed because your signals will face congestion at the international gateway where all your country's signals will be fighting through a long queue.
