I've had this issue with 2 different Linksys routers and now on a Netgear WNR854T wireless router.
Once the router has been up and running for a while with a wireless user attached the speed for both upload and download drop to very slow speeds.
If I disable the wireless radio on the router the wired speeds pick right back up to where they belong. All wired clients slow down, not just one workstation.
Normal speeds with wireless disabled:
10,717 kb/s download
992kb/s upload
Abnormal speeds where wireless client is attached and speed has dropped:
802 kb/s download
150 kb/s upload
This does not appear to be a workstation issue as all wired clients slow down once the wireless client attaches (takes a couple minutes or more before speeds drop).
If you do one of these then speeds pick right back up to where they belong
1. Disable the wireless radio on the router
2. Or shut down the wireless laptop
As said I've changed and used 3 different routers and all (even different brands) have this issue. The wireless client is an HP 800x series laptop with Vista Home.
Looking for a setting or something to resolve this wireless client issue.
The problem seemed to go away for a couple months, so wondering if Microsoft has modified some file on Vista that is causing the issue? Though very odd behavior and hard to believe that software on a laptop could make a difference to the hardware of a router, but frustrating as I can't find a fix for it for long time now.
Thanks
