Please help, I am a complete idiot when it comes to computers so keep that in mind with your responses:)
I am trying to connect to the internet using my laptop and a wireless notebook card. I am trying to connect to the linksys signal from next door, (public library) and I have made been able to connect daily in the past and now all of a sudden I am no longer able to connect from the router to the internet. My connection from the laptop to the router is good, please help. I have tried all the posting but don't understand most of them...

It may be that the library people have discovered that someone is using their internet connection (Presumably for free, from what you say) and have taken steps to prevent it. They may, for instance, have just activated the encryption on their system.

No, it's set up for free public access when you go into the library with your own computer, it's just that since I am next door I can pick up the signal with out going into the library.

Ok... well I can be of no further use I'm afraid. Was only a thought.
But if you persist others will help. Did you try asking the library people ?

Have you gone to the library with your laptop and tried connecting?
Do they have a captive portal (your browser will be directed to an intranet site where you may have to enter a passphrase)

I know what you can do....stop stealing BW and buy an internet connection. Just because you are within range does not mean it's free. It's for library patrons only, meaning, you have to be IN the library. Look up some case law, you can be prosecuted. One case off the top of my head: Panera offers free internet access. A guy used to park in the parking lot everyday and leech (like you) off of it. He ended up getting arrested and fined. You can get dial up for $10 a month so dont say you cant afford it.

Sounds like the wireless ride you were on has set up wep on the router you can connect to the ap but that is as far as you can get. Time to spend some money of your own.
JUST A THOUGHT:rockin:
