LOL.. I just went thru 5 M$ reps and they kept playing the "oh you need to call these people up" type of shuffle..

Do you any of you guys know the answer to this?

I installed Vista Ultimate, registered the serial number with M$, then I decided to go back to Windows XP.
I now want to install Vista on Virtual PC 2007, within Windows XP.
Because the hardware is going to be "emulated" differently, won't this screw up my Vista, if I then try to re-install it again straight out on my PC later on? Because the "emulated" hardware in Virtual PC 2007 is different then what is actually in my computer, am I going to have problems later?

I can't believe that the five M$ reps that I talked to, couldn't tell me..

Thanks. :)

During the install you may get the activation error but I've had no trouble calling them and getting an activation code. Just took a few minutes.

Thanks.. but that's what I don't want to get into.. If I have to re-install my Windows XP I have to call them... and I really don't like to call M$ up, this last instance, tip me a bit over the edge.. LOL. :)

Well.. I had a dual boot for a while.. however, I had problems with XP, in the boot area.. couldn't fix it with Vista Recovery command bootrec.exe because XP boot mgr /area is different then Vista... and things were not happy..
So I was able to fix XP with the XP install cd @ the command prompt (Recovery console), and just decided to wipe out the Vista partition.

I went ahead, anyhow and installed Vista in Virtual PC 2007 in XP.. it's running ok so far. I did not registered my serial during the install.. so we will see what happens. Supposedly, M$ announced a few days ago, that it will not "disable" non-registered copies of Vista.. there is also some registry tweaks that I know of... I guess I'll see what happens. :D
